2016 > 2019
Peggy was rescued in the Maldives by the teams of Marine Savers after becoming entangled in fishing nets. In
2016, this Olive ridley sea turtle, one of the smallest species of sea turtle, was transferred to Pairi Daiza.
She arrived in a critical condition: seriously injured, suffering from a lung infection and having lost one of her
flippers. Thanks to three years of dedicated care from the Pairi Daiza teams, Peggy gradually recovered her
strength and even learned to swim again.
In June 2019, Peggy was finally able to return to the Indian Ocean. A moving return to the wild, giving her the
opportunity to reproduce and contribute to the survival of this vulnerable species.
