Reptiles and amphibians require very specific care, which is often
underestimated by their owners. As a result, they are frequently neglected or
abandoned. The Pairi Daiza Foundation takes in hundreds of abandoned or
confiscated animals every year, while also working to raise public awareness
about their needs.
Following a mandatory quarantine period to rule out potentially contagious
diseases, we treat sick or vulnerable animals and gradually help them adapt
to their new living conditions. Returning them to the wild is rarely possible.
However, individuals belonging to threatened species may join breeding
programmes, helping to secure the long-term survival of their species.
