Bernardus, the Black vulture,
has taken flight into the wild

Born at Pairi Daiza in 2015, near the Saint Bernard Tower, Bernardus, the Black vulture, was released in the
Verdon (France) at the age of four months. By giving him the opportunity to join the wild population, we have
supported the recolonisation of the Southern Alps by this endangered species. This provides a much-needed boost
for a species whose population is threatened by poisoning (through the ingestion of poisons intended for foxes
and wolves) and habitat degradation by human activities.
