2016 > 2019
Rescued in the Maldives by teams from Marine Savers after she had become trapped in fishing nets, Peggy was
entrusted to the care of Pairi Daiza in 2016. Seriously injured, suffering from a lung infection and having lost one
of her limbs, this olive ridley sea turtle (one of the smallest species of sea turtle) made a full recovery and learned
to swim again, thanks to the care and attention she received from Pairi Daiza’s teams for three years.
In June 2019, Peggy was finally able to return to the Indian Ocean. This return to freedom gives her the best chance
of reproducing, thus contributing to the survival of this vulnerable species.
