2019 > PRESENT
An iconic Arctic species, the polar bear depends on the frozen sea ice to travel, hunt, and reproduce. However,
this vital ice pack is rapidly disappearing due to climate change, shrinking by an alarming 12.85% every decade.
This alarming situation has led the IUCN to classify the polar bear as ‘Vulnerable’. The Pairi Daiza Foundation
is committed to protecting wild polar bears alongside Polar Bears International (PBI), the largest organisation for
the protection of polar bears and their environment. We are lending our support to a scientific research project to
assess the impact of climate change on the way of life of polar bears in the Hudson Bay (Canada). Pairi Daiza and
its Foundation have also been recognised as an “Arctic Ambassador” by PBI. This title is in recognition of the quality
of our polar bear habitats, our commitment to the fight against climate change and our efforts to raise awareness
of the threats to biodiversity.
