BERNARDUS, the black vulture
BORN AT PAIRI DAIZA, FEELS THE WIND BENEATH HIS WINGS
AMOUNT COMMITTED TO DATE: €10,000
2015
Born at Pairi Daiza in 2015, in the shade of the Saint Bernard Tower, Bernardus, the black vulture, was released in
the Verdon (France) at the age of four months. By giving him the opportunity to join his wild cousins, we have given
this endangered species a helping hand in recolonising the Southern Alps. It’s a much-needed boost for this species,
whose population is threatened by poisoning (through the ingestion of poisons intended for foxes and wolves) and
the degradation of its habitat by human activities.
