binturongs IN PALAWAN

The binturong, or bearcat, is a carnivorous mammal notable for its unique appearance and nocturnal habits. It lives
in the forests of Southeast Asia, including the Philippines. Listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN, this species is threatened
by habitat loss due to deforestation, as well as by illegal capture for the pet trade and hunting for its fur and meat.
As part of its conservation efforts, the Pairi Daiza Foundation is actively engaged in protecting the binturong in
Palawan, in partnership with the association AB Conservation. The aim of the partnership is to study and preserve
this species, about which little is known.
